When an individual is arrested, there are many factors that must immediately be managed, including the fact that the arrest may have taken place in the middle of the night, or the wee hours of the morning, or on a holiday or weekend.  The criminal justice system operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, every week of the year, and so does the Mullin Law Firm.  Any client, whether new to the Firm or with an existing case, can reach the Firm in the event of an emergency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Sundays and holidays.  No client is ever left alone to deal with the authorities.

Within twenty-four hours of an arrest, the individual should make their initial appearance before the Court, which appearance is called the arraignment.  The arraignment is one of the most important moments in any criminal case, as the Court and counsel will get their first glimpse into what the Government says the individual did to commit the alleged crime.  Counsel for the accused will then be given an opportunity to speak to the Court regarding the allegations and the individual under arrest.  Most importantly, New York courts will then use that information to determine whether to hold the individual on bail or release him or her on their own recognizance to return to court.
